The 2014 Walk was held on October 26 at Provident Bank Ballpark, the home of the Rockland Boulders. Over 1,000 walkers raised more than $175,000 to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. Ira Emanuel repeated his role as Registration Chairman. This was his 23rd annual Walk.
The Rockland Walk is one of two Walks held each Fall by the Northern New Jersey/Rockland County Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. JDRF was founded in 1971 by parents of children with Juvenile Diabetes (now known as Type I diabetes). Type I diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which the body attacks and destroys insulin-making cells in the pancreas. Individuals with Type I diabetes must undergo daily insulin treatment in order to survive.
Ira Emanuel has served as a Board member, President, and Secretary of the Chapter.
