To my family, friends, clients and colleagues:
Each year, instead of sending holiday cards, I make a donation to a worthy cause in your honor. This year, I have selected The Salvation Army.
Most of you know the Salavation Army because of its annual holiday red kettle drive. Some of you also know that it provides emergency relief, especially in disaster areas. Though my involvement in Rotary International, I have come to know many members of SA personally, and also gotten to know more about what SA does throughout the year.
Simply put, SA seeks to help people who need help. Whether it is providing clothing, food, shelter, education or spiritual uplift, SA members go to where the need is. In this respect, SA, though a Christian denomination, is fulfilling the Jewish commandment of tikkun olam, or “repairing the world”. Lord knows it needs a lot of repair right now.
My donation to SA, on behalf of all of you, will help that mission. If you want to join me, please visit www.salvationarmyusa.org.
I hope that 2016 has been a good year for all, and that 2017 will be even better.
