Ateres ZBA Appeal Filed

Ateres Bais Yaakov is an Orthodox Jewish day school. It wants to purchase the current Grace Baptist Church campus in Nanuet, NY. The campus includes a dedicated school building. The Clarkstown Building Inspector, however, claimed that the church had not used the building as a school for more than one year. Therefore, he claimed, it had lost its zoning status. We filed an appeal to the Clarkstown ZBA, pointing out the errors in the Building Inspector's determination.

The case also has elements of religious discrimination and anti-Semitism, especially as voiced by members of the surrounding community and local political leaders. For that reason, we have been joined by the global law firm of Weil, Gotschal and Manges.

More information can be found on the Ateres page.

UPDATE as of May 16, 2019: Because of Clarkstown's actions, Ateres was unable to secure funding for its purchase. The transaction was therefore cancelled.
