The Ramapo Planning Board granted a negative declaration to the Hillside Mikvah project on April 13, 2021.

The neg dec was granted despite opposition from CUPON of Mahwah and the Borough of Upper Saddle River, both of whom claimed that this religious institution would adversely affect the character of the neighborhood and exacerbate claimed flooding issues. No evidence of adverse character impact was presented, and the claimed flooding occurred on one occasion in 2018 during construction activity.

The neg dec allows the project to move to the Ramapo ZBA for needed variances.
